Discover the Legacy: The 3 Red Dots that symbolize liquor stores in south Carolina originated in Charleston, SC. They first appeared in July 1945 on a liquor store at the corner of Spring & King Streets. Born out of the repeal of Prohibition and the legalization of retail liquor sales, these dots emerged amidst strict advertising regulations. With signage limited to 3-inch tall letters, the 'Red Dot' was painted to enhance visibility. While its exact spread remains a mystery, by 1949, these symbols adorned 'Package Stores' statewide, guiding Locals to their Libations, becoming the Beacon for a Bottle, and serving as THE indicator when a Nip becomes Necessary!
